Predicting FedEx Cup Rankings Using Masters and Early-Season Performance Metrics

Abstract:

This study explores the predictive relationship between Masters Tournament performance and FedEx Cup season-end rankings. While initial visual and linear regression analyses showed limited correlation between Masters placement and FedEx Cup outcomes, integrating advanced metrics such as SG:Approach and Scrambling into a Random Forest model improved predictive accuracy. Results suggest that certain statistics are stronger indicators of full-season success than Masters finish alone, offering insight into broader performance trends across the PGA Tour.
